Kiss the Son

This is an interesting time in our country and world. There are a myriad of issues in which people are taking sides. From the Paris Climate Agreement to kneeling during football games, they are the latest issues du jour. Kiss the Son is no different.

What does it mean to Kiss the Son? Let’s read the text.

Psalm 2

Why do the nations conspire
    and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
    against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
“Let us break their chains
    and throw off their shackles.”

The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
    the Lord scoffs at them.
He rebukes them in his anger
    and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
“I have installed my king
    on Zion, my holy mountain.”

I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, “You are my son;
    today I have become your father.
Ask me,
    and I will make the nations your inheritance,
    the ends of the earth your possession.
You will break them with a rod of iron;
    you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
    be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear
    and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry
    and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
    Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

There is much being said in this passage. God’s sovereignty is the primary message. God wants us to know that He is in complete control. God was revealing His reconciliation plan way back then. In  Daniel 4:34 , God shows how He rules over all kings. In that verse,

“Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever.

His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation.”

Nebuchadnezzar honor God as sovereign, but He does not honor God as the one true sovereign God. In essence, that is what it means to Kiss the Son. It is the recognition that Jehovah is the One True God and that Jesus is His Son. We are to submit to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. That is what it truly means to Kiss the Son.

Have you Kiss the Son? Have you surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior? Do so, for “Blessed are all who take refuge in him.” I have submitted to Jesus. I have surrendered to Jesus. As a result, He promises to be a refuge and a blessed one at that for me.
