TRUTH: Living in Light not Darkness

In the post TRUTH: Who’s Your Potna (Partner), I echoed Paul’s direction on how to live the new life in Christ. Paul’s admonition about who we associate is profound and a proclamation from God about how we should live and navigate this life.

Today, we see Paul making further direction on how to live as he contrasts our lives before Christ and our lives since surrendering unto Jesus as Lord and Savior. Paul conveys that it is our duty to live life in a manner that is reflective of Jesus who is the light of the world. Jesus said, ““I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” In contrast, sin or a life of sin is considered darkness. It is those who do not have the light, Christ. Satan is consider he  who leads the efforts of sin i.e. darkness. TRUTH: Living in Light not Darkness.

Ephesians 5

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,
    rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

John 3:19 tells us “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” This is God’s commentary about the nature of man. Man prefers, no loves, darkness instead of light. How did God make that assessment? He looked at their behaviors. What we do tells what we believe or feel especially over time. As a follower of Christ who has a new life, Paul is telling the Ephesians and us the TRUTH: Living in Light not Darkness.
In verse 8, Paul points to their former way of life, you were once darkness, and their new way of life, “but now you are light in the Lord.” Whether NIV, NASB, NJKV, we are only consider light by being in the Lord.” In conveys a position. The position is one is either in Christ or not. Those who are not are in the dark. They cannot see or submit to the things of God. Listen to what Paul told the Corinthians, “13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.” The only way to move from darkness to light is through Jesus Christ. “Therefore, if anyone is inChrist, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

2 Corinthians 5:17 As a consequence, this is why Paul is telling the Ephesians how to live their lives as children of light. TRUTH: Living in Light not Darkness.
TRUTH: Living in Light not Darkness means that we have nothing to do with darkness. We are to expose darkness. We are not to even mention or discuss what those who practice darkness do. God’s desire is to use us as light to expose the darkness and to use us to lead others out of darkness.
Father, on behalf of all your saints, I ask you that this week will be written down in eternity. This week of February 26, 2018, Father, I ask that you increase your kingdom by everyone who is presently in the light. Use us to bring at least one person out of the darkness and into the light. By faith in your and trust in your redemptive plan, I know that you desire to use us reconcile man unto you. Father, you have given us the ministry of reconciliation. In the name of Jesus, I ask that you do your will in and through us. I ask that you build your kingdom in and through us. I trust that it is already done and that I am just responding to fulfill what you have already decreed and done. Amen.
