TRUTH: Know God

Guzik wrote ” A famous writer named Alexander Pope wrote, “Know then thyself, presume not God to scan; the proper study of mankind is man.” Charles Spurgeon responded to this famous statement: “It has been said by someone that ‘the proper study of mankind is man.’ I will not oppose the idea, but I believe it is equally true that the proper study of God’s elect is God; the proper study of a Christian is the Godhead. The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy which can ever engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the great God whom he calls his Father.” “For philosophy comes to man with the message, Know thyself; the Gospel meets him with the far more glorious and fruitful watchword, Know thy God.” (Alford)” TRUTH: Know God

I say that the biggest endeavor we have is to know Jehovah, the Only True God. When we know God, we know our purpose for existence. Everything we do is rooted in our concept of who God is. The clearer our vision of who God is, His character, and what God can do, His authority/power, our decisions become more aligned to the righteous life God desires for us. TRUTH: Know God

The Apostle Paul was praying that for those believers in Ephesus. We see that in Ephesians 1.

15 For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, 16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. 17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

To know God better is to know God more than you did before. Notice, Paul assigns the acquisition of knowledge to God alone. He says, “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” The words “the Spirit” is a direct reference to the Holy Spirit whom Jesus stated in John 14 that ” the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” We already learned in Ephesians 1:13 that the Spirit of God is given as a deposit, living in, to all who trust Jesus as Lord and Savior. TRUTH: Know God

Paul is saying that we must grow in our knowledge by having wisdom that is knowing what is right and doing what is right. Paul also attributes that knowing to the Spirit. He prays that the Spirit may reveal or give a revelation of who God is. The idea of a revelation has nothing to do with a mystic like Mrs. Cleo, but that of the Spirit searching and knowing our deficits of knowledge of God to improve our understanding and applications of those truths about God. Through Christ, we know the Spirit can see what is in the hearts and minds of man. Therefore, we can be sure that the Holy Spirit does not need to seek knowledge of the Father that He otherwise lacks. The Spirit probes the depths of divine knowledge for our benefit. TRUTH: Know God

In John 14:6, ““I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus said, “16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,” Do you know God through Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior? If not, you want to experience the TRUTH: Know God.
