TRUST: God is Beyond the Hype

TRUST: God is Beyond the Hype. Hype in the vernacular means something that is advertised or promoted that draws attention to a thing, person or event. There have been many over-hyped books, movies, athletes, vehicles, teams, homes, concerts, etc. I am sure that you can think of something that was so highly anticipated, but once you experienced it, you were sorely let down. Proverbs 13:12 tells us that “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”

In regards to an over-hyped movie, Matthew Chernov of Variety.com wrote that the “The Matrix Revolutions” (2003) was one of the most over-hyped movies. “Four years after “The Matrix” wowed audiences with its dazzling effects and provocative story, the Wachowskis unveiled two much-hyped sequels, released a mere six months apart. Though not quite as groundbreaking, the second film, titled “The Matrix Reloaded,” expanded on the mind-bending themes and trippy visuals established in the original. Not so with the sloppy third entry, however, which ended the cyberpunk saga with a yawn rather than a cheer.”

Clearly those who shared Mr. Chernov’s opinion were disappointed at “The Matrix Revolutions”. There hearts may have been sick. I too have had my hope deferred trusting in some people and my used-to-be Atlanta Falcons. People and all created things will eventually let us down. They, in contrast to the Almighty God, are far from being perfect nor are the created designed for that. God alone is to have that TRUST reserved for Him. Why? TRUST: God is Beyond the Hype.

TRUST: God is Beyond the Hype is about contrasting our let downs in this world with God who is never a let down. In fact, there isn’t anything in the Word of God that fully captures who He is. That isn’t because God cannot describe Himself, but it our finite minds. One of the attributes of God is that He is incomprehensible. God cannot be fully comprehended by limited beings like mankind. As such, you need to TRUST: God is Beyond the Hype.

Below are a couple of passages from the Psalms. They outline some of the reasons for us to TRUST: God is Beyond the Hype.

Psalm 145[a]

A psalm of praise. Of David.

I will exalt you, my God the King;
    I will praise your name for ever and ever.
Every day I will praise you
    and extol your name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
    his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another;
    they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
    and I will meditate on your wonderful works.[b]
They tell of the power of your awesome works—
    and I will proclaim your great deeds.
They celebrate your abundant goodness
    and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

The Lord is gracious and compassionate,
    slow to anger and rich in love.

The Lord is good to all;
    he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All your works praise you, Lord;
    your faithful people extol you.
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom
    and speak of your might,
12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts
    and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
    and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
    and faithful in all he does.[c]
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
    and lifts up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
    and you give them their food at the proper time.
16 You open your hand
    and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
    and faithful in all he does.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
    to all who call on him in truth.
19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
    he hears their cry and saves them.
20 The Lord watches over all who love him,
    but all the wicked he will destroy.

21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord.
    Let every creature praise his holy name
    for ever and ever.

Psalm 150

Praise the Lord.[a]

Praise God in his sanctuary;
    praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power;
    praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
    praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with timbrel and dancing,
    praise him with the strings and pipe,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
    praise him with resounding cymbals.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord.
