TRUST: When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.

Disclaimer: Fire burns you. Today, I want to share a story with you though that defies that fact. It also confirms and conveys another truth about not being burned in the figurative fires of our lives. By standing on the truth, God’s Word, I can say TRUST: When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.

Let me go straight to the text in Daniel 3. In this passage, the faith or TRUST of Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah was on full display to show TRUST: When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned. If you have not read the passage, those names may not be familiar to you. You may know them as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego or the three Hebrew boys who were friends of Daniel. They were apart of the Jewish captivity by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.

As you know from Exodus 20, God said, “You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them;” Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were well aware of God’s command, so when Nebuchadnezzar issued a decree that whoever does not fall down and worship will be thrown into a blazing furnace.

Let’s listen in on Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah’s conversation with Nebuchadnezzar that chronicles whether they would bow down and serve someone other the Jehovah.

15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what godwill be able to rescue you from my hand?”

16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[c] from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah demonstrated TRUST: When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned. They laid the foundation for us to consider and emulate. I am not sure what you are going through or facing right now, but I know if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, the prince of this world, satan, is prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. That someone is you.

Do not fear. He is not a roaring lion in comparison to the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David who has truly triumphed. God is calling all of us to TRUST: When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.

Now, let’s see how the story ended for Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah after trusting in God.

Nebuchadnezzar commanded some of the strongest soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. 24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?”

25 He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”

26 Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God,come out! Come here!”

So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, 27 and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.

28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way.”

Didn’t He do it! God saved Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah for trusting in Him. He promises to save us for trusting in Him. This why I am proclaiming TRUST: When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.
