TRUST: In the Name of the Lord and Rely on God

In the post TRUST: In the Name of the Lord our God, I shared that David conveys the choice that we all have in life. We can either trust in things/people, or we can trust in the name of the Lord our God. The theme continues today in Isaiah 50. Here God tells us to TRUST: In the Name of the Lord and Rely on God.

There isn’t a need for me to offer much commentary today on the passage below. All I can tell you is that I was falsely accused yesterday of a very serious allegation. Praise God that He immediately emboldened me with confidence. Fear did not seize me. In fact, I did not know how the circumstance would end, still don’t, but God told me to TRUST Him. In fact, God has been telling me that every since I could hear Him speak more than 30 years ago. God’s message has remained the same – TRUST: In the Name of the Lord and Rely on God. Several people tried to come to advise me, intervene for me and help me, but God, like a shot of adrenaline, gave me confidence and power by TRUSTING in Him. I had to rely on who God is and what God can do to serve as my help in that moment. As I said, I still have to as Monday is coming or some other day after that. It does not matter the day or circumstance. God’s expectation is still the same for all who call Him God, Lord and Savior – TRUST: In the Name of the Lord and Rely on God.

Whether our hardships or suffering or God ordained or the result of our disobedience, the primary point in the passage below is captured in verses 10-11. It reflects the choice we all have. We will either TRUST: In the Name of the Lord and Rely on God and be saved, or we will trust in whatever and experience torment. Isaiah delivers God’s question – who among you fears the Lord and obeys the word of His servant? God has message for the obedient and disobedient. Light for the obedient and torment for the one who tries to provide His own light. God is condemning trusting in yourself and refusing to trust in Him. I will TRUST: In the Name of the Lord and Rely on God. As such, I can go on in peace not fearing what Monday will bring if Monday should come for me.

10 Who among you fears the Lord
    and obeys the word of his servant?
Let the one who walks in the dark,
    who has no light,
trust in the name of the Lord
    and rely on their God.
11 But now, all you who light fires
    and provide yourselves with flaming torches,
go, walk in the light of your fires
    and of the torches you have set ablaze.
This is what you shall receive from my hand:
    You will lie down in torment.

Isaiah 50
This is what the Lord says:

“Where is your mother’s certificate of divorce
    with which I sent her away?
Or to which of my creditors
    did I sell you?
Because of your sins you were sold;
    because of your transgressions your mother was sent away.
When I came, why was there no one?
    When I called, why was there no one to answer?
Was my arm too short to deliver you?
    Do I lack the strength to rescue you?
By a mere rebuke I dry up the sea,
    I turn rivers into a desert;
their fish rot for lack of water
    and die of thirst.
I clothe the heavens with darkness
    and make sackcloth its covering.”

The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue,
    to know the word that sustains the weary.
He wakens me morning by morning,
    wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.
The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears;
    I have not been rebellious,
    I have not turned away.
I offered my back to those who beat me,
    my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;
I did not hide my face
    from mocking and spitting.
Because the Sovereign Lord helps me,
    I will not be disgraced.
Therefore have I set my face like flint,
    and I know I will not be put to shame.
He who vindicates me is near.
    Who then will bring charges against me?
    Let us face each other!
Who is my accuser?
    Let him confront me!
It is the Sovereign Lord who helps me.
    Who will condemn me?
They will all wear out like a garment;
    the moths will eat them up.

10 Who among you fears the Lord
    and obeys the word of his servant?
Let the one who walks in the dark,
    who has no light,
trust in the name of the Lord
    and rely on their God.
11 But now, all you who light fires
    and provide yourselves with flaming torches,
go, walk in the light of your fires
    and of the torches you have set ablaze.
This is what you shall receive from my hand:
    You will lie down in torment.
