Are You A Liar?

According to dictionary.com, a liar is one who tells lies. A lie is defined as a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood. It goes without saying that we all have communicated a false statement or told an untruth. That seems to be a little more palatable than being a liar. Despite that, I need to ask Are You A Liar?

In 1 John, John presented the notion that we could be forgiven and cleansed of our sin. Some however, must have thought that they did not sin. Sin is to fail to meet God’s standard. We can fail to do something God told us to do or do something that God told us not to do. In either case, we need to acknowledge that we fail to meet God’s standard.

Are You A Liar? In our day, I have seen sin dulled as people like to say I made a mistake which we all do. Furthermore, people often submit when caught doing wrong that I am only human. In subtle ways, those mindset are an affront to one’s spiritual estate. To say those things puts us in a dangerous place, because God’s grace and mercy is extended to sinners. Not to “those who make mistakes” or “I’m only human” or “no one is perfect” people, but sinners. We need to realize the victory and forgiveness that comes from saying, “I am a sinner, but Jesus is the Savior who cleanses me from all sin.”

Still, the question remains. Are You A Liar? John outlines how to answer this question in the text below.

If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person
Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son.
Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.
Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.
John answers the question clearly. You are a liar if you…
  • claim to be without sin
  • fail to obey God through His inspired, inerrant and infallible Word
  • deny that Jesus is the Christ
  • hate your brother or sister
  • refuse to love your brother or sister
  • do not believe God’s testimony about Jesus His Son

Are You A Liar? We know that we all are; however the greater question is are you denying God His rightful place in your life. If you are, you will spend eternity separated from God should you die physically that way. Luke 13:3 says, “I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

Repent and be saved.
