Are You Walking in the Dark?

My wife often picks at me because I watch tv in the dark, work on the computer in the dark, sit around contemplating in the dark. She asks if I am a vampire. We chuckle about it, but the point she is making is why are you in the dark. We know our homes. We can walk around in the dark very well, but what we don’t know in the dark is that a child left a shoe in the middle of your path or some other object that is out of place. That’s dangerous because we can trip and/or fall hurting ourselves. Are You Walking in the Dark?

In life, we would all agree that things are often out of place or at least where we expect or anticipate them. We cannot afford to walk the road of life in the dark, so I ask Are You Walking in the Dark? What constitutes walking the path of life in the dark? We can find that answer in 1 John 1  John explains it to us in chapter one. Let’s review a few verses that equips us to answer Are You Walking in the Dark.

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Simply, John tells us that God is light and that there is no darkness at all in Him. Are You Walking in the Dark? If you are living your life for yourself instead of for Christ, John says that you are walking in the dark. If God is light, the only way for one to have light is through Christ. “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 Furthermore, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.John 14:6

The truth is plainly stated by Jesus – “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Are you following Jesus? If not, you are walking in the dark. We already know the perils of walking in the dark. It is dangerous because we don’t know all of the harms awaiting us. Beyond that, it is depressing living in the darkness. Light reminds us life. Jesus said that He was the light of life.

Are You Walking in the Dark? You are if you are not following Jesus. If you are not pursuing life as He outlines in the Word of God, the Bible, you are walking in the dark. As the woman called out to the little girl, Carol Ann, in the 1982 Poltergeist, “come into the light.” Accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, follow Him and you will be in the light.
