When You Don’t Understand, What Does The Master Teacher Do?

It is pretty safe to say that almost all human beings have been to school at least for one year of their lives. It is also pretty safe to say that almost all of those who have faced a situation where they did not completely understand what the teacher was attempting to get them to learn. I just happened to have more of those than the average person. As an educator, I experience those situations all the time, but When You Don’t Understand, What Does The Master Teacher Do? I am not claiming to be a master teacher but to have mastered what The Master Teacher does, but one of my former students told me that he appreciated me not having an attitude when he did not understand something. He said that made him willing to ask again. I applaud all those around the world who give themselves for the good and development of others. I want to say though that The Master Teacher whom I am referring is Jesus Christ.

When You Don’t Understand, What Does The Master Teacher Do? To answer any question about God, we should always turn to His Word to gain insight into that which we are not clear. As such, we return to John 10. As I began to read this morning to see what God would say to me, it hit me like the hand that would slap the forehead from the V-8 commercials or the apple from the Redd’s Apple Ale commercial. Bam! I read one line and saw the answer to When You Don’t Understand, What Does The Master Teacher Do?

Let’s get to it. John 10. If you have not read the past few post, you are not aware of Jesus’ teaching to the Pharisees. One instructional strategy that is very effective is comparison and contrast. Jesus uses that strategy often in stories, another effective teaching strategy, when instructing people. We see that over and over in His Word as He interacted with His disciples and others. In the verses that proceed verse 7, Jesus laid the foundation of His story to compare the Good Shepherd, Himself, with hired hands, the Pharisees. Both asserted to lead people to God. Jesus had already told them why He was The Master Teacher and they were not.

Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.

What is it that The Master Teacher does? Of course, The Master Teacher has all knowledge. Consequently, The Master Teacher can properly assess, diagnosis and prescribe the solution to any ailment, spiritual or not. He is the elixir. The Master Teacher can teach the same content in a different way. He can teach the same thing with different content. He can teach the same thing by having one created a different product, you. He can teach the same thing through a different process, your life. He can teach the same thing through a different environment. The Triune God truly individualizes and differentiates His Teaching. While true and very important, the main point that I want to give in response to When You Don’t Understand, What Does The Master Teacher Do? is that The Master Teacher tells you again, and tells you in truth and certainty.

Jesus was committed to telling people the same message i.e. content over and over again albeit in a differentiated manner. If we were to follow Jesus in the book of John, we see Him telling the religious leaders and the Jewish people over and over the truth about Himself. They did not get it, but He told them over and over in a variety of ways especially those which had a cultural significance to them. Jesus modeled the depths that we should go to help someone understand. I will apply that to my kids and wife today. Sometimes, I am more impatient with those who should command my greatest patience. Praise God for revelation and understanding. When You Don’t Understand, What Does The Master Teacher Do, He tells you the truth again.

Jesus used this figure of speech, but the Pharisees did not understand what he was telling them. Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.

He told them who He was and for whom He was. What is Jesus telling you today about who He is? Have we not heard Him today? Get into the Word to allow Him to speak to you through the Holy Spirit. God wants to teach us today. Class is in session, but we have to want to learn. Are you ready to listen to The Master Teacher?
