What To Do When Amazed at God’s Work

Today’s post comes as a by-product of reading a text from a previous post, The Love of the Father. In The Love of the Father, Matthew 15 was referenced because it was an example of Jesus responding to a woman’s crying out. As I read further in the chapter, there were a number of ailments that Jesus responded. In addition to the woman asking Jesus to heal her demon-possessed daughter, the text says, “30 Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.”

I am not sure about you, but those appear to be some debilitating and desperate conditions that Jesus alleviated and eliminated. Thinking of those things brought me to the title of today’s post, What To Do When Amazed at God’s Work. What should we do when we are amazed at God’s work in our lives or the lives of those around us? Once again, I turn to the text, Matthew 15, to direct us.

28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment. 29 Jesus left there and went along the Sea of Galilee. Then he went up on a mountainside and sat down. 30 Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them. 31 The people were amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled made well, the lame walking and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.

We see clearly what God had Matthew to report in terms of an appropriate response to His working in their lives or the lives of those whom they cared most about. Verse 31 is very plain -“they praised the God of Israel”. The word for praise is doxazō which means 1. to think, suppose, be of opinion, 2.to praise, extol, magnify, celebrate, 3. to honour, do honour to, hold in honour. To whom should praise, honor, high supposition be extended? The God of Israel. The God of Israel is Jehovah (Yĕhovah ) which means Jehovah = “the existing One”..

For Christians, we learned that the God of Israel (Gal 6:15-16) was inclusive of those not physically descended from Israel. The Word says all are true Israelites who have been chosen by God for salvation. While Jesus’ healing of all those infirmaties was amazing, the greatest of His works is salvation, and What To Do When Amazed at God’s Work. We should praise God. Give honor to Him by living by His Word for Him.

If you believe that you have been saved from the consequence of your sin, you know What To Do When Amazed at God’s Work. PRAISE HIM today and every day.
