Aeneas and Tabitha Experience the Power of the Holy Spirit

In the post Go When the Lord Calls, I stated God simultaneously gives us peace and strength while building His Kingdom as we Go When the Lord Calls. We also Experience the Power of the Holy Spirit when we Go When the Lord Calls.

Continuing on in Acts 9, we see this evidenced in Peter’s going if you will.  Any of us would surely attest to the strength or power that it takes to heal a paralytic or to raise the dead to life. This is what the Holy Spirit enabled Peter to do in Acts 9. The text says

Acts 9

32 As Peter traveled about the country, he went to visit the Lord’s people who lived in Lydda [means strife]. 33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who was paralyzed and had been bedridden for eight years. 34 Aeneas,” Peter said to him, “Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and roll up your mat.” Immediately Aeneas got up. 35 All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord.

36 In Joppa [means beautiful] there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor. 37 About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. 38 Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!”

39 Peter went with them, and when he arrived he was taken upstairs to the room. All the widows stood around him, crying and showing him the robes and other clothing that Dorcas had made while she was still with them.

40 Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.” She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. 41 He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called for the believers, especially the widows, and presented her to them alive. 42 This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. 43 Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner named Simon.

After Jesus healed the paralytic, Aeneas, through Peter by the power of the Holy Spirit, the text says this was the response. “35 All those who lived in Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord.” After Jesus healed the dead woman, Tabitha, through Peter by the power of the Holy Spirit, the text says this was the response. “42 This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord.”

When people see the Lord at work through the demonstration of His power, people will turn to the Lord or will believe in the Lord. The problem is that people do not see that demonstration of Jesus’ power in our lives. Aeneas and Tabitha benefited from the power of God demonstrated through Peter’s life.

Who in your life has benefited from the demonstration of Jesus’ power in your life? We must desire the same if we want to be true disciples. We must attend to procuring the Spirit as Luke 11 tells us – “13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!””Ask God to allow us to be so close and connected to Him that people around us Experience the Power of the Holy Spirit.
