Who Takes A Day Off

To answer the question above, I am going to start with me. Let me say that yesterday was my first day off from school. I am sorry that I did not write, but every fiber of my mind and body was yearning to sleep in the rain. I had hoped for that kind of day. In God’s humorous way, it just so happened that it was dreary, rainy and cold. It was the perfect day to rest, and I must say that I took full advantage of the weather conditions. I rested and I slept.

In contrast to my yearning for a day off to sleep, the Word of God says that God neither slumbers or sleeps (Psalm 121:4). This is another example of God’s faithfulness.  Man sleeps and rests because he does not have unlimited strength and power as God does. In Psalm 121, there are many attributes assigned to the Almighty God. Let’s examine a few of them.

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
   will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

While I wanted to rest and sleep, God never does. He is always there to watch over those who have committed themselves to Him. What a contrast yet a great confidence builder. There are so many benefits listed in this passage that we could spend a week or so posting about it; however, I want to focus on that we are assured that God watches over us.  God watches over mankind, but He pays particular attention to those who are His.  As I stated in the first sentence, I wanted to sleep.  While I was sleeping, life continued.  I could not attend to any needs while unconscious. In contrast, God never slumbers nor sleeps. He answers the question Who Takes A Day Off in the negative. God does not get drowsy nor does He ever lose touch with any moment of our lives.

Think about that.  God never gets drowsy or sleeps.  We can count on Him to watch over us whether we are asleep or not. As you are already on your way or just starting your day, it is comforting to know that God watched over you last night and will do so today.  Think about this.  There are 24 hours in a day.  That is 1,440 minutes or 86,400 seconds.  Now, times that times the number of years you have been on this earth.  That doesn’t begin to reveal how faithful God is, but it is a start for us to reflect upon how He keeps us. Who Takes A Day Off? God does not. He has always and will always keep us.  Be blessed as you reflect over God not taking a day off to care for us. Hallelujah.
