The Fear of the Lord is Pure

In the post The Law of the Lord Epithets, I shared with you that Psalm 19 presents six names for the Word of God. They are perfect, trustworthy, right, radiant, pure, and sure. In verse 9, the Word of God is given this attribute.

The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever.

I will not tarry this point. I will keep it simple as I listen to Psalm 19:9 depiction of the Word of God. God’s Word will create pure fear of the Lord. The “fear” here is reverence for God; hence, the Word of God creates reverence for God, who He is and what He can do. When we have a proper respect for someone or something, we must have a proper view of that entity. In essence, the Word of God gives man the proper view of God. When we see God properly, our reverence for Him is pure. When have a proper view of God, we can live a pure life. This is verified by Psalm 119:9 which raises a question about the purity of life for man. Psalms asks a question then answers it.

How can a young man keep his way pure?
By living according to your word.

If you want to live a pure life, you must commit to the Word of God. After all, the psalmist stated “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”

What will you do today with God’s Word? Will you read it, study it, hear it, memorize it, or meditate on it? If you do, you will keep your way pure. If you can’t decide, start with Psalm 119:11 which helps build your fear and purity. In it David says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” The Fear of the Lord is Pure as God’s Word is pure.
